Otterhill Bastion

Otter Hill Bastion

OS Sheet: 99

Map Reference: NZ599062

Aspect: West Facing
Altitude: 210m

A prominent pillar of sandstone, rising around 10m from the Otter Hill area of Battersby Moor. The climbing is on compact sandstone, with good holds. The position is excellent. Park as for Ingleby Incline/Turkey Nab. Walk up the forestry track and then cut north across the moor for around 200 metres. No Dogs.

" Otter Hill Bastion can be combined easily with Battersby Crag or Turkey Nab but they don't really compliment this great piece of rock. Perhaps it's the ideal way to start/end a day at Ingleby Incline, which can be reached by following the green-lane towards Bloworth Crossing." Dave Warburton

1. Weasel ArÍte   E6 6a   *
The left arÍte climbed on it's right, following the wall to a slopey top out. A serious central section.
Dave Warburton, Franco Cookson 28th August 2012 "Enjoyed this, nearly overlooked it. Pretty iffy middle section, with a few bold and tricky to see moves. Excellent position and with a protectable and slopey top out." Dave Warburton

2. Otter Hill Eliminate   E1 5a   **
Starting at the left of the front face of the pillar, ascent the obvious right-trending ledges to an unbalancing move. Continue up the photogenic groove above. A well positioned climb, at the upper end of it's grade.

3. Moor Cry   10m   E2 6a   *
Follow the groove line in the front of the pillar, with one hard move to gain the crux of 'Otter Hill Eliminate'. A worthwhile route.
